Xol Akmul

"My ancestors built this place long ago and then entombed themselves, leaving the city to the jungle."

Xol Akmul is an ancient Aztecan city, located in Skull Island. The city was built centuries ago by ancient Aztecosaurs, who entombed themselves not long after their work was completed. As a result, the city was abandoned, and was reduced to ruins as the jungle took over.

Sensing the destuction that would befall Azteca by the comet Xibalba, a group of Aztecosaurs were able to flee from the world through a portal. They were led by the shaman Itzam Halach, who was chosen by the Lords of Night to be Ahau of their recolonization effort.

Not long after these Aztecosaurs settled, the city was struck by a dark magic that was released by Ch'ok Ak'ab, a dark sorcerer and one of the ancestors that was involved with the foundation of Xol Akmul. Ak'ab had been entombed deep beneath the Pyramid of Fire, but was resurrected with shadow magic and corrupted. A Pirate was able to come to the Aztecosaur's aid, and defeated Ch'ok Ak'ab, bringing peace back to Xol Akmul.

Foundation and abandonment[]

Aeons ago, Xol Akmul was founded by ancient Aztecosaurs. They built the city, and later entombed themselves, leaving it abandoned.

Discovery by the SGS[]

In the modern day, the ruins of Xol Akmul was discovered by the esteemed Catherwood Stevens of the Spiral Geographic Society (SGS). He described the ruins extensively in his journal before he was driven out by Troggies.^[1]

Return to Xol Akmul[]

Sensing that Azteca would meet a terrible end from Xibalba, the Lords of Night chose the shaman Itzam Halach to be the Ahau of a group of Aztecosaurs who would be part of a recolonization effort of Xol Akmul. After succesfully entering the portal, these Aztecosaurs avoided their deaths, and started anew in Skull Island. The Court of Aztecozuma became the governing body of Xol Akmul, while the Lords of Night remained.
