"When the Ice Titan fought with his brothers, the Titans of Fire and Storm, the world was threatened with ruin."
―Grandmother Raven[src]

The Titan War, also known as the War of the Titans,[1] was an ancient conflict in the era of the First World that took place between the Dragon Titan, the Ice Titan, and the Storm Titan, the children of Grandmother Raven and Grandfather Spider, after Spider corrupted and pitted them against one another for the sake of his own amusement.

The war ended with the destruction of the First World, and in retaliation for the Titans' recklessness, Bartleby sung the Titanic Lullaby to put them into an eternal sleep. The remnants of the First World were bound together by Bartleby and Grandmother Raven and became the Spiral.

Summary[]

In the era of the First World, Raven and Spider created the three Titans. Raven and Spider represent Order and Chaos, thus had very different styles of parenting. Raven tried to teach the Titans to be a uniform force for good while Spider encouraged their children to do what they would, which lead to the War.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

In several Arc 1 quests in Wizard101, the "War of the Titans" is described as being a conflict that occurred long ago between the three races of Dragons, Giants, and Tritons, said by Bartleby to be his children. The conflict is mentioned in all of the introduction quests for Fire, Balance, and Ice. Between these quests and the release of Wintertusk in 2010 the lore behind the Titans was retconned, with the war now having only been fought between the Ice Titan, Fire Titan, and Storm Titan, erasing the concept of the Titans being entire races of beings.

In a thread on the Wizard101 Message Boards, a fan asked head writer The Curator (Sam Johnson) what the reasoning was behind the significant change between the way the story was described originally with the Titans being Bartleby's children, while in Empyrea Part 2 it is revealed that both Spider and Raven were responsible for creating them. Johnson responded by pointing out that in reference to the now-retired quest "Old Men"; "The implication there is that each Titan was actually a race of people. The way we like to look at it, Raven and Spider created the three Titans, and then Bartleby sang a song that multiplied them into species of lesser beings, the inhabitants of the First World. And do bear in mind that at the point he was telling you all this Bartleby was a bit of an unreliable narrator..."
