"I don't even know how I got here! I fell asleep at the recording studio, and I had the strangest dream. One of these weird Crab guys appeared and told me I was chosen to rescue the Spiral from dark forces! I'm like "What's the Spiral?" when I'm suddenly in this cage and they're asking me what size crown I wear. They called me a "Grandmaster Thaumaturge"? What is that?!"

Selena Gomez is a singer and actress from Earth. When she was supposed to be getting ready for the release of her new CD, she was kidnapped by the Crab Court and held prisoner inside a Prison Tower within the sunken Crab Alley underneath Triton Avenue in Wizard City. King Heinrich Thermidor VIII and his advisors intended to make Gomez their Queen against her will, prompting Gomez to send out a distress signal that was heard by the Wizard and Halston Balestrom. Together, they traced the signal back to Gomez, and the Wizard traveled to Crab Alley to save her.

The Wizard was not able to free Selena Gomez from her cage, and she was taken to the Royal Tower as the marriage ceremony between King Thermidor VIII and Selena commenced. Before it could be carried through, the Wizard intervened and stopped the ceremony in its tracks. Heartbroken, King Thermidor and his Crab Court expressed their dissatisfaction with their kingdom. Showing off their skills in dancing, Selena Gomez hired the Crabs to fill in some of her backup dancers that had dropped out just prior to her tour. With her new friends, Gomez returned to Earth.

Biography[]

"Is this thing on? Can anyone hear this? This is crazy! I have no idea where I am, but I'm being held prisoner in an underwater tower! I don't know how that's even possible, but I shouldn't be here! I'm supposed to be getting ready for my CD release! Someone... please come and get me out of here!"
―Selena Gomez[src]

Selena Gomez was raised on Earth in the city of Grand Prairie.[1]

One day, Selena Gomez fell asleep at her recording studio, when suddenly she had a strange dream of a Crab appearing, who told her she had been chosen to rescue the Spiral from dark forces. Selena asked what the Spiral was, but before she knew it she was locked up in the White Tower in Crab Alley, with the Crab Court asking her what size crown she wore. They referred to her as a "Grandmaster Thaumaturge", despite Selena not actually knowing Magic.[2]

Not long after, Selena sent out her distress call, in which she was singing one of her songs. The call was quickly received by the Wizard, who was also from Earth, and the School of Storm professor Halston Balestrom also heard the distress call through his Resonating Harmoniogram whilst he was tuning it. Halston communicated directly with the Wizard and invited them to his classroom, where they would investigate the situation further. The Wizard used Halston's Harmoniogram while Halston concentrated on his Scrying Pool, and he was able to divine exactly where the music came from.[3]

The Wizard, after getting information on Crab Alley and using a water-breathing potion made by Darla Whisperwind, went underwater to Crab Alley.[3] With help from Halston's old friend Herman, the Wizard entered the Prison Tower that Selena Gomez was being imprisoned at and defeated the Tower Constables that attempted to "defend" Selena. Afterwards, Selena thanked the Wizard for helping, and asked them if they could help her get out of her cage. Selena went on to explain how she got to Crab Alley in the first place. Meanwhile, the Wizard attempted to pick at the cage's door, but it was locked tight and warded with powerful enchantments. The only way the cage could be opened was with the key, which Selena informed the Wizard that the Tower Captain had in his possession when he had left just before they entered the tower.[2]

With further information from Herman, the Wizard defeated the Tower Captain, who had been patrolling the streets of Crab Alley with his soldiers. However, when the Wizard re-entered the Prison Tower, they discovered that Selena was gone. The Wizard went to find a clue in her cage, and found a piece of paper in an envelope, a wedding invitation announcing the betrothal of Selena Gomez to King Thermidor VIII inside the Royal Tower. The Wizard rushed to the tower to stop the ceremony, interrupting Thermidor VIII as he gave Selena his vows. The Wizard fought King Thermidor VIII and Thomas Cromshell and defeated the both of them, successfully ending the wedding.[1]

King Thermidor expressed that his heart had been broken, and Thomas Cromshell stated that the failed wedding was a "great setback" to their kingdom. The Crab Court hoped that "Queen Selena" would have redeemed the kingdom, as King Thermidor VIII was seen as a terrible king. Selena assured the Crabs that they seemed like nice guys, but said there had been some kind of mix up. She continued by clarifying she was not a Wizard Queen but an actress and a singer, and that she wasn't really interested in politics and had a CD to release, emphasizing she just wanted to go home. King Thermidor asked Selena what he and his kingdom would even do, noting that his kingdom had no purpose or jobs, with 100% unemployment. The Crabs had no notable skills other than poetry and dance, so Selena hatched an idea to let the Crabs dance for her tour as a few of her backup dancers had to drop out just before her tour. With one large dance, Selena hired the Crabs and thanked them before leaving to return to Earth.[1]

Promotional art.

Promotional art.

  • The real-life Selena Gomez voiced her Wizard101 counterpart as part of the launch of Crab Alley, a temporary promotional storyline event for the release of her album, available in the game in late 2010. The area was made permanent after the event, however without any of the rest of the event's content, and the questline as a whole was essentially removed from canon.
  • Selena Gomez's model from Wizard101 was reused in Pirate101 for Serena Gutierrez. Gutierrez's name is a pretty obvious nod to the model's origin.
  • From July 27 to 29, 2015, Selena Gomez's character model appeared in Halston Balestrom's Scrying Pool in the School of Storm in the same hologram form from the questline 5 years prior. Though some speculated that this was a teaser for another event featuring Gomez, KingsIsle later confirmed that it was just a graphical glitch. On July 28, Lydia Greyrose (Leala Ulrich) stated in an update note that "The ghost of Selena Gomez will no longer appear in the Storm school."
