Nelson S. Everhart (born March 25, 1974) is an American composer and music educator, most well known as the lead composer for the KingsIsle MMORPGs Wizard101 and Pirate101.[1][2] He has composed the soundtracks for every major expansion in each game since their releases, as well as composing tracks for various side content. Everhart typically composes with MIDI but often incorporates live sounds and professional musicans into his music, including his own vocals and instrument playing.
Everhart began his career in the video game industry in 1996 as an audio producer at Gray Matter, which led him to a position at Acclaim Entertainment. He composed or co-composed the soundtracks for various releases from both companies including The Crow: City of Angels, Fur Fighters: Viggo's Revenge, Turok: Evolution, and Vexx. During his time at Acclaim, Everhart also notably composed under the direction of Michael Giacchino for the Alias video game adaptation. More recently, Everhart has been the composer for the J. Todd Coleman-directed MMO Crowfall.[3] Everhart has a YouTube channel where since 2018 he has produced his Musical Tour of the Spiral series, breaking down the compositions of select tracks he composed from both Wizard101 and Pirate101.[4]
Musical Tour of the Spiral[]
On November 17, 2017, Nelson Everhart began the Session Study series on his YouTube channel, in which he would take a track that he composed from a world in Wizard101 or Pirate101 and break down its composition. The first episode was on the Aeriel main theme from Empyrea. The series was then relaunched as Musical Tour of the Spiral on March 6, 2018, with the first video of the new era being on the Bastion theme from Khrysalis. Everhart did a Session Study on Cool Ranch from Pirate101 on January 23, 2018 before beginning a separate Musical Tour of the Spiral series for the game on June 5, 2019, with the first video being on the Westminster Skyway theme from Marleybone. The videos are not produced with or associated with KingsIsle Entertainment, they are instead solely produced by Nelson Everhart himself.
