Mortis is a male Spell Tree who is the Death Tree at Ravenwood School of Magical Arts, residing to the left of the School of Death in Nightside. Mortis hails from Darkmoor, and was brought from the world by Merle Ambrose as a sapling and raised at Ravenwood. When Malistaire Drake ripped the School of Death from its former spot and threw it into Nightside as a way of lashing back in revenge for the death of his wife Sylvia, Mortis was unharmed.

As a sapling, Mortis was brought from his home of Darkmoor to Ravenwood by Merle Ambrose, where he was raised.[1] Sometime after the creation of Ravenwood School of Magical Arts, Mortis became the Death Tree, residing outside of the School of Death.
The Arboreal Ritual[]
As the condition of Bartleby continued to get worse and worse even after the Eye of History was returned to him, Merle Ambrose called on the Wizard to perform the Arboreal Ritual so that they could go to the Springs Eternal underneath Bartleby and use them to heal both Bartleby and Mellori, who was near death after having her essence drained by Medulla in an attempt to sever the Paradox Chains and destroy the Spiral. As part of the Ritual, the Wizard went to Mortis to ask him for his Springleaf, so that they may begin the ritual.[2]
