For the capital of Marleybone, see Marleybone City.
Marleybone, officially the Kingdom of Marleybone, is a world in the Spiral. It is a member of the Council of Light,[1] and is one of the "Great Powers of the Spiral," known for its mercantile empire and its immense naval power. The world is made up of several skyways, the central one being Westminster, the location of Marleybone City, the Isle of Dogs, and the Isle of Fetch.
Outside of the world itself, Marleybone has colonies in Skull Island, Krokotopia, Zafaria, and Darkmoor, and its trading companies sail and supply the entire Spiral. Their economic supremacy is second only to the merchant families of Valencia.
History[]
Ancient Marleybone[]
Following the destruction of the First World during the Titan War, the Spiral was created by Bartleby and Grandmother Raven. The land that would later be known as Marleybone was created.
In Ancient Marleybone, Dog tribes ruled and warred with each other constantly. The tribes continued to war until one rose up to unite them all, Beormutt. This mighty warrior won over all the other clans in a mighty battle which caused an immense loss of life. As a result, it was sworn that all Dogs should only strive for peace going forward. Marleybonian society eventually developed into that of a monarchy, with Marleybone always being ruled by a king or queen.[2]
Rebirth of Marleybone[]
Many years later, as the harsh memories of past kings faded, interest in Ancient Marleybone grew. This era was known as the Rebirth. Marleybonian inventors built on the technology of the past, inventing machines such as the printing press, which would be used all throughout the Spiral. Poets and scientists such as Lady Chelsea and Sir Laurence Hyde were among the most famous of the Rebirth era.[2]
Golden Age of Marleybone[]
The Rebirth of Marleybone had a profound impact, and things changed rapidly for Marleybonian society. One event that changed history forever was the infamous imprisonment of a popular printer by Queen Ellen because of the printer's criticism of the Crown. The inprisonment caused unrest in society, with some Marleybonians believing that Queen Ellen could be overthrown. However, Queen Ellen respectfully released the printer and decided to form a Parliament to ensure that a king or queen's rule would not be absolute. Her reign from then on was referred to as the Golden Age.[2]
Discovery of the Spiral[]
Sometime later, historian Herold Digmoore was studying ancient myths for the Parliament when he spoke an ancient line of text and accidentally found himself teleported to Wizard City. The discovery of the greater Spiral inspired new technological inventions, and Marleybone began to travel the Spiral, eventually developing colonies in many worlds.[2]
Marleybone Civil War[]

Sometime after the Golden Age, tensions between Dogs and Cats continued to rise, and eventually the Cat General Robert E. Leary led a revolt and waged war on the Dogs of Marleybone. The Dogs fought back against the Cats, attempting to keep Marleybonian society from falling into utter chaos. Famous Dog General Sherman M. Bones was mainly responsible for the Dogs' victory against the Cats, ending the war and preserving political stability in Marleybone.[2]
