Hyottoko was a Ninja Pig bandit who was in possession of the Gem of Balance. The gem was being transported to Sesshu Toyo in the Imperial City of MooShu to be a gift for Emperor Yoshihito, but Hyottoko stopped the carrier and took the gem for himself. He was hard for the Samoorai to track. Eventually, he and his minions were holed up in the Mooyoto Pagoda outside of the Cave of Solitude. For their quest to learn the spell to summon a Spectral Guardian, Alhazred sent the Wizard to MooShu to find the Gem of Balance. After first consulting with Yochimo, they spoke to the spirit Din Ho, who knew the location of Hyottoko and his minions. Hyottoko was soon met in battle by the Wizard and defeated, with them taking the Gem of Balance from him.[1]

- Hyottoko appears in Wizard101 as the boss encounter in the quest "Present Danger," which is the first quest in the Balance-exclusive questline to unlock the spell Spectral Minion.
- A Statue of Hyottoko is available as a housing item in both Wizard101 and Pirate101. In Wizard101, it could originally only be purchased for Arena Tickets from Roland Silverheart, however the statue can also be acquired from the Great Moodha Statue in the Shinobi Dojo and from fishing chests. In Pirate101, it is dropped by various mobs in MooShu.
- In real-life, Hyottoko is the name of a comical character in Japan that is usually portrayed by a signature mask in which his mouth is puckered and skewed to one side. It is unknown if the character in Wizard101 is intended to be a reference to him.
