"Let all that is flesh burn; and, in ashes, find relief."
―Hunhau[src]

Hunhau was an ancient evil who resided within the deepest crater of the comet Xibalba for eons, nourished by the heat of the stars, before being released into Azteca. Hunhau had originally been driven to slumber by Druids. Nameless, Hunhau was given its[1] name by ancient Aztecans, meaning "Death," as that was what it offered. Hunhau was worshipped by the Cult of the Crying Sky, a cult of Aztecans who wished to spread Hunhau's truth of death across the Spiral. Supported by Hunhau's Revenants, the re-animated corpses of Aztecans that were manipulated to serve it, the cult's Crying Sky Priests took lives as energy to fuel Hunhau and make it stronger.[2] According to ancient Aztecans, Hunhau was a "Primal Being of Death," and was the subject of tales claiming that it battled Hades for dominion of the Underworld. Though, prior to Hunhau's awakening, modern scholars questioned if it ever existed, with some even postulating that Hunhau was simply the Aztecan name for Grandfather Spider.[3]

  1. Though Gwyn Fellwarden exclusively uses it/its pronouns to refer to Hunhau, one of the Lore Tablets found in The Crying Sky uses he/him instead. As the it/its pronouns are more commonly used, this article assumes they are correct.
