Captain Horace Avery is one of the most famous pirates in the Spiral and known as the most succesful. He is a retired pirate who serves as the Steward of Skull Island. Avery is usually accompanied by his pet cockatoo, Horatio. Avery is a veteran of the Polarian Wars, which he amassed a fortune from for raiding Monquistan treasure fleets. He used this fortune to help buy himself Skull Island, ultimately winning stewardship of the world from its former Marleybonian governor in a bet.

When the Polarian Wars raged across the Spiral, Horace Avery amassed a fortune by raiding Monquistan treasure fleet for their gold.

Winning stewardship of Skull Island

A few years prior to the Captain's arrest by the Armada, Avery won the stewardship of Skull Island from the Marleybonian governor in a bet. Avery set out to transform the former Marleybonian colony into the greatest Pirate haven in the Spiral.
