Foulgaze was an individual who in Undeath became a malevolent specter who frequently haunted Sapphyra's Tower in Wizard City's Olde Town. When Malistaire Drake was searching for the Order of the Fang, Foulgaze served Lord Nightshade, who in turn served Malistaire as part of his Undead Army. Foulgaze sent all of the "useful" books pertaining to the Order of the Fang to Nightshade. As part of an investigation ordered by Merle Ambrose and prompted by Bartleby's ramblings after the latter's Eye of History was stolen by Malistaire, the Wizard entered Sapphyra's Tower as Foulgaze was looking through some of the books he had acquired about the Order of the Fang. Foulgaze recognized them and exclaimed he had been hoping to meet them, as he enjoyed a challenge. He would ultimately be defeated by the Wizard.[1]

- Foulgaze appears as a Rank 3 Boss in Wizard101, encountered during the Main Story quest "A Brief History of the Spiral."[1] This quest was introduced with the First Time User Experience (FTUE) changes to Wizard City in 2021, though Foulgaze also appeared in the original version of Wizard City's storyline. In his original role, Foulgaze appeared in the Main Story quest "A Look of Horror" as a spirit haunting Sapphyra's Tower, which was where the Tower Key resided which was needed for Merle Ambrose to unlock the old archives in the Wizard City Library and find out who was working for Malistaire and leading the assaults on Wizard City. In his single line of dialogue, Foulgaze exclaimed before players fought him, "Fool! You dare to defy Foulgaze? As you drift off into the darkness, your last sight will be my face. So be it!"[2]
- Foulgaze's Monstrology Tome description reads: "A living dead reminder to never stare directly at the sun."[3]
