We're both made to perform tasks we didn't sign up for, and never get the credit we deserve. For instance, after the Musicology Scholar blew up his office, who managed the cleanup and did all the paperwork to move him into a new one? Me. And when Ione needs someone to fix her rat problem - or was it a mole problem? Yes... fix her mole problem, who does she run to? That's right, me. LIBRARIAN Fitzhume. I've two millennia's worth of books to Dewey decimalize, yet Princess Ione makes me call the exterminator. 'Hero of the Arcanum' is what they should call me. Oh well. You should probably go help Ione before that mole makes too big of a mess."

After the retirement of Spider alongside Raven in the Husk's Primordial Forest, the Cabal was without leadership and it seemed retribution against the Arcanum was likely. Ione Virga and the Arcanum monitored Cabal communications until one day it was discovered that the some of the communications were being traced back to the Arcanum's own Musicology Department, to one Maulwurf von Trap. Fitzhume was the first person contacted by Virga to deal with the situation, but as he had already been tasked with things beyond the scope of his position as librarian, he decided to pass on responsibilities to the Wizard, who had just arrived back at the Arcanum.[3]
