- "Have you heard of El Dorado? It's a legend of the skyways: a lost island of solid gold!"
- ―Horace Avery[src]
El Dorado is a world in the Spiral that contains the ancient City of Gold. Once home to a long-dead ancient civilization, it is now guarded by the dangerous golden Sentinels.
History[]
Fall of El Dorado[]
The City of Gold
Founded by an ancient civilization with close connections to the Celestians, the city became a resting place for the masters who built it, believed to have been killed by their own creations. After the fall of El Dorado, the Celestians used their magic to unmoor the Stormgate from the fabric of the Spiral so that no one could ever return.
Marco Pollo's expedition[]
- "The passage nearly destroyed us, but there it was: El Dorado! I will never forget that city - so haunting, so strange. So empty."
- ―Gazpaccio[src]
Lost to time and considered a legend, the explorer Marco Pollo was just one of many who aspired to find El Dorado. With the help of Cao Tzu, Merle Ambrose, and Gamma, he used the Scroll of Secrets and managed to unravel the mystery of the Stormgate to El Dorado, and made his infamous Map. Pollo formed a crew that were the first to make it inside of El Dorado. However, the secrets they found there left Pollo scarred,[1] and much of the crew perished from the dangerous Sentinels.[2]
The remaining crew sailed away at the dawn of the next day,[1] but a Sentinel managed to climb aboard the ship. The crew obliterated the machine, and while the other crew members argued over their share of the gold, Gazpaccio took the broken pieces of the Sentinel as his share.[2] Managing to make it out with his life, Marco Pollo devoted the rest of his life to hiding the secret he had discovered.[1] He took his Map and tore it into pieces and hid them throughout the Spiral.
Modern legends[]
When the Wizard and the Nothing went to the Caravan in Mirage to find clues of Lemuria's existence, a Dromel Merchant informed the Wizard that he had heard a traveler mention visiting Lemuria on his way to El Dorado, but he did not exactly believe him.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
- El Dorado was originally intended to be the final world in the First Arc of Pirate101, and would have logically been visited in Book XX. However, plans changed significantly and Valencia in Book XV became the final world of the First Arc.
