Diego Santiago Quariquez Ramirez III, more commonly known as Diego the Duelmaster, is a Unicorn and a champion Duelmaster from Valencia who manages the Arena in Unicorn Way, Wizard City. Diego is also a representative of Wizard City for the Council of Light, and helped the Wizard with their quest through Khrysalis and the eventual defeat of the Umbra Queen, Morganthe. Diego's twin brother Roberto is a known criminal, and the two of them are mortal enemies.

Early life[]
Diego and his brother Roberto were born on Valencia to Diego Ramirez II and his mother. Diego was hired by Merle Ambrose sometime after the foundation of Wizard City.[source?]
Stolen heirloom[]

Years later, Diego's family heirloom, a lucky unicornshoe from his great-grandsire, was stolen by his twin brother Roberto, who had wanted the item since the two of them were colts. Diego tried to confront him, but Roberto locked himself into a building in Olde Town, behind a Wooden Skeleton Lock.
Diego believed the ward to be only a legend, and didn't know how to unlock it. Because of his job training Ravenwood students in the Combative Arts, he wasn't able to do the research necessary to confront Roberto, and so he called on the Wizard to help him in the matter. The Wizard went to see Klortho, an assistant for the Wizard City Library, inside the library in order to ask them about what to do about the Skeleton Lock. Klortho explained everything about Skeleton Locks to them, and then gave them a Wooden Skeleton Key and a Keyring in order to detect nearby Skeleton Locks.
The Wizard returned to Diego, and told them about what they learned. At first, Diego fretted about the Wizard not having a Wooden Skeleton Key, but upon learning that they did, he was relieved. Diego then told them that he could not actually fight his brother, because of honor, as well as oaths that Diego and Roberto made to their mother and father on their deathbed. Roberto specifically stole the heirloom, knowing that Diego would be unable to personally retaliate for these reasons. But honor did not forbid sending a proxy to deal with Roberto and take back the unicornshoe. Because of this, Diego sent the Wizard to fight Roberto, seeing them as his most prized pupil. The Wizard then fought Roberto in his lair and defeated him, forcing him to give the heirloom back.[1]
