Catmandu is a region in the outer reaches of the world of MooShu. Considered reclusive, Catmandu was originally settled by Qhats and is home to the monastic Order of the Sacred Yarn. It has long been contested by the worlds of MooShu, Mirage, Rajah, and others.^[1] Sometime following Dasein's sacrifice and the subsequent destruction of the World Synthesizer, the region was visited by a Novus Shard which floated in the sky above.^[2] The Shard became known as the Stone of Heaven by the residents of MooShu, and the Wizard was sent by the Arcanum to go to Catmandu with the intent of reaching the Shard and gauging its effect.^[1]

Catmandu was first officially revealed in the Novus teaser, released on KingsIsle Entertainment's YouTube channel on August 2, 2022.^[2]
Catmandu seems to be based on Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.
A bundle card for Wizard101 based on Catmandu, named the Catmandu Sanctuary Bundle, was released in GameStop stores on November 1, 2022. It features a Catmandu-themed Castle called the Catmandu Sanctuary (the same location seen earlier with the reveal of Catmandu in the first Novus teaser in August), a Zheng mount, Lucky Cat pet, Sacred Yarn outfit and staff, and the choice of either 1 month of Membership or 5,000 Crowns.
