"That would be telling."
―Blind Mew[src]

Malthus Erasmus Winthorp, known as Blind Mew, is a blind Cat beggar and member of the Order of the Watchers who resides in Skull Island. He is known to be a good purveyor of information, and is famous among pirates for his extraordinary abilities, both natural and unexplainable.

Biography[]

Since Skull Island was nothing more than a Marleybonian colony, Blind Mew has been a fixture of the world. He made his living as a beggar and purveyor of information for many years, for some pirates as long as they could remember.[1]

Personality[]

Blind Mew, as his name suggests, is blind and as such his other senses are amplified. He is famous for his acute hearing and smelling, and as such it is assumed that very little that happens around Skull Island goes on without Mew's notice. On several recorded occasions, Mew correctly guessed how many coins doubters had in their pockets just by listening to the sound of the jingle when they walk. Something much more unexplained is Mew's ability to seemingly turn up in ports all over Skull Island while never even being seen boarding a ship. One pirate's account said that he spoke to Mew at the docks of Skull Island before setting sail, only to find the Cat waiting for him when he showed up in Scrimshaw. When asked about how he does this, Mew wryly responds: "That would be telling."[1]
